This Tutukaka home is something spectacular. With views to the Poor Knights Islands and surrounding bush, the home designed by Herbst Architects compliments its environment perfectly. The home is a natural balance of different building materials, from rammed earth exterior walls to concrete, with metal and cedar accents throughout. With well thought out room proportions and a design focussed on allowing maximum light to enter the home, it has a bright, relaxed, open-plan flow. The home is built in two forms, connected by a glass walkway to maximise the stunning views no matter where in the home you are. Clever design and construction came together to provide shading that is not only practical but eye catching, to prevent the home overheating in the summer sun, while rainscreens provide stunning light patterns through the home. Extra special features include a covered outdoor room with cedar rainscreens, spotted gum flooring and an open fire, plus a beautiful in ground outdoor pool.

The home won the 2020 New Zealand Institute of Architects Auckland Region Award and has been featured in Home Magazine and Urbis Magazine.
